Trained NWS SKYWARN Storm Spotter

When Did I Get Certified?

_I recently got certified to be in the SKYWARN Storm Spotter Program August of 2023. I had to undergo 2-3 hours of training and proper teaching by the National Weather Service themselves online.

What Do Storm Spotters Do?

In the program, Storm Spotters monitor storms in their local area/community/region and report real-time conditions back to the National Weather Service.
• Floods
• Tornadoes
• Hurricanes
• Volcano Ash
• High Winds
• Avalanches
• Mud Slides
• Hail
And, ect..

Why I Joined The Program

Ever since I was four years old, living off towards the coast of North Carolina, I've been very fascinated by the climate in my area. Thunder storms were my main favorite- mostly severe ones! Snow was my second favorite. It's been my dream career to become an Meteorologist, or even a simple Weather Forecaster at the Weather Channel._As I grew up, I started to notice how difficult the job really is, and I've been working extra hard to fulfill my dream career. I've slowly been working myself up to by reading books, research, and even in classes to help me learn all I can. When I was in my Sophomore year of High School, I drove to one of the Shreveport, Louisiana news stations which I had a tour, and was even been given an opportunity to do a weather forecast behind the green screen. The SKYWARN Storm Spotter Program is the first step to being a Meteorologist, which I will take honor in and treat it as an actual professional position. Though I recently started this program, I am still in need of a few tools to continue with the program: rain gage, an anemometer, barometer, and possibly a hygrometer. Any amount, of even a tip is well appreciated to help me carry on with this.

How Far Do I Accept To Go In This Program?

I am accepting that I will go far and do so much in this program. I am helping my community and farther areas in my region by keeping them safe."How?"When reporting severe weather conditions, it's helping The National Weather Service to accurately record weather events and even set out alerts, warnings, watches, advisories, ect. earlier to save lives. For An Example: When a trained Storm Spotter sees a funnel cloud ahead that the NWS hasn't located on their radars, they can report it in and give details, which the Weather Service can then send out the warning before it's too late! This is the beginning to my weather career, and I won't be giving up on it.

Donations Appreciated!

Unfortunately, you don't get paid as a Storm Spotter. As a Storm Spotter, you would need certain tools for measurements (wind, pressure, snow/hail depth, and rain fallen). Most tools are rather expensive, even through Amazon. I'm not asking for a lot, but even a few dollars would be a great help and a start towards themIf you have any other questions/concerns- more questions about the program or even personal questions on any other motivations of my career, don't feel shy to contact me. You can even tell me the weather conditions from your area if you'd like :)Chime: $Ashley-Strickland-35
